So what is FreeAgent?

FreeAgent is essentially an accounting software package, made for humans, not accountants (no offense). The reason we say this is because within 5 minutes of setting up an account we weren’t scared away by profit and loss tables, balance sheets and debtors lists. Instead we were presented with a beautiful UI, and easy set-up video that helped answer any questions we had before we even got started!

FreeAgent allows you to do everything you need when running a business. We managed to get our account set-up and running with all our clients and bank balance synced within 30 mins. Though you could probably do it quicker if you are familiar with these platforms.

To import all our latest bank transactions we just exported them from our online banking service (We bank with HSBC) and simply uploaded the file to FreeAgent and 5 mins later all our transactions were visible. Ready to assign to invoices or any other payments.

One of our favourite features was the ability to customise our invoices using CSS. This is really handy if you want to create a bespoke style or you already have a format you love.

Plus you get a whole load of features such as creating estimates, prepare & pay your tax bill, manage expenses, track time and much much more!

Design 51 have success at Observer Business Awards!

On March 30th 2012, Daniel Edwards of Design 51 attended the fabulous Gazette & Observer Business Awards at the Hilton, Avisford Park.

The evening was attended by over 200 guests representing businesses around the area.

Daniel was presented with the fantastic award for Young Business Person of The Year 2011, a recognition that he is very proud of and is displayed in the new Design 51 office at Northgate.

Design 51 has had a fantastic year and we hope 2012 will continue to bring in new business and we are all very excited about the future!

Daniel would like to thank everyone who has supported him over the past 3 years and the judges for recognising his hard work and passion for design.

Daniel will be attending the Southern Business Awards in September, wish him luck!

Design 51 launch new website for Emma Wynter

Emma Wynter offers fitness classes, personal training, children’s parties and organises fun dance-themed evenings and workshops for both adults and children. We were commissioned to re-design the website to make it both more visually exciting and easy to use.

We chose the awesome WordPress for the site, it’s easy to use admin area means Emma is able to edit her website content and publish blog posts on the go. For the technically minded of you the site is coded using HTML5 and CSS3 and the awesome @font-face service for custom web fonts.

Heart & Sole – The second event is on it’s way!

Heart & Sole Is Back!

If you didn’t attend the last event in January, then let me explain all about this awesome event for you!

Heart & Sole started in 2010 as a simple get together for freelancers and sole traders, with the intention to have a good ol’ jolly around Christmas time for those who didn’t have the luxury of being able to go to big agency Christmas parties. It quickly evolved into much more than that, the speaker list grew and grew until they could no longer call it a Christmas party, and almost by accident Heart & Sole became a conference!

The first event was a HUGE success! Great speakers and a good get together with folk traveling from as far as Spain!

Alex from H&S says: “The night in question was a complete sell-out, and packed to the brim with a roster of very special guest speakers, a raffle (which wasn’t a fix …honest!), and a social and networking session for all attendees. Check out the videos and more! ‘

With that, there was no way it was ever going to just be a one-off. Regular well attended monthly meetings and now, the next big event!

This month we are kicking things off with an awesome video of mad-man, daredevil & base jumper Jeb Corliss. You may have seen Jeb recently on ITV with his mad dive from a helicopter through a mountain in Japan. it was pretty special, but the quality of this video and the pure class timing by Jeb made ‘Grinding The Crack’ our choice for the month. New branding… plus new website coming soon!

You may have noticed our new logo over there on the right quick look now! We have been working on a complete re-branding process over the past 3 months and decided while our new website is being coded up we would post a teaser of what’s to come!

Our current one page site has been up for a while now and in desperate need of some quality content – plus a complete portfolio.

We hope you like our new logo as much as we do, we feel it reflects our style and even ties in the Area 51 link (ok.. bit cheesy?). Although some people have said it is ‘superhero-esque’ which we think is actually pretty cool.

Design 51 Launches Southdowns Investigations

This month we have launched a brand new site for Sussex based private investigation company, Southdowns Investigations. Paul from Southdowns has worked on some very high end jobs, the Sarah Paine case to mention just one!

The site is built using the awesome WordPress as it’s CMS and uses plugins such as SEO for WordPress by Yoast, Gravity Forms and Leaflet Maps.

We have enjoyed the process of this site particularly as Paul from Southdowns has been very open to a completely new look for his business. Plus we have learned alot about private investigation and heard some fantastic stories along the way!
